I’ve often repeated to myself Beverly Sills’ advice that

There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.

But I forgot that not every place is worth going to, let alone a “pearl of great price”.

Time management expert Ed Bliss argues that striving for excellence is healthy, but striving for perfection is a neurotic waste of time. He asks the following question —

If my life depended on doing the task in half the time I have allocated, what shortcuts would I take? Is there really any reason not to take them?
